Every great goatscaping operation starts with the right goat. At Goats at Work, we've built our herd from the ground up with one goal in mind — the toughest, most efficient land-clearing goat available. Meet the Kiko.

Our Herd: 100+ Purebred Kiko Goats

Our herd is made up of over 100 purebred Kiko goats — a breed originally developed in New Zealand from a cross of feral brush goats with dairy and meat breeds. The result is an exceptionally hardy animal, bred to thrive in harsh environments and perform well on pasture and heavy brush alike.

Kikos aren't your average backyard goat. They were purpose-built by nature and selective breeding to do exactly what we ask of them every day across Barrie, Orillia, and the wider Simcoe County area — eat what's in front of them, stay healthy doing it, and leave the land better than they found it.

Why Kikos Are the Ideal Goatscaping Goat

Built Tough

Kikos thrive in rugged conditions — steep slopes, dense brush, and hard-to-reach terrain that machinery simply can't handle. Ideal for Ontario's varied landscape.

Low Maintenance

Kikos are known for their parasite resistance and hardiness, meaning less veterinary intervention and a healthier herd year-round.

Voracious Browsers

Kikos love brush, weeds, and invasive species — exactly the vegetation most landowners in Simcoe County want gone. They eat what other animals won't.

Kikos are a meat goat breed steadily gaining popularity across North America — and for good reason. For targeted grazing and natural land clearing, they are simply the best tool for the job. No herbicides. No heavy equipment. Just goats doing what they do best.

Health and Herd Standards

We take the health of our herd seriously — not just for the wellbeing of the animals, but because a healthy herd is a productive herd. Our goats hold a clean bill of health and are tested clear of two of the most common and serious diseases in goat production:

Disease-Free Certification

CL Free (Caseous Lymphadenitis)

CL is a chronic bacterial infection that causes abscess formation and can spread through a herd. Our goats are tested and confirmed CL free.

Johne's Disease Free

Johne's is a serious wasting disease in ruminants. Our herd has a clean bill of health — giving you and us confidence every time our goats arrive on your property.

When our goats show up to work on your Barrie backyard, your Orillia property, or anywhere across Ontario, you can be confident they are healthy, well-cared-for animals managed by a shepherd who takes animal stewardship as seriously as the job itself — and protected every step of the way by our Maremma livestock guardian dogs.
