Frequently Asked Questions

How does goat grazing work?

We bring a herd of trained goats to your site, where they graze on unwanted vegetation like weeds, brush, and invasive plants. It’s a natural, chemical-free method of clearing land.

Where are you located and what areas do you serve?

Our home farm base is in the Barrie and Orillia, ON, area, making us centrally located in Simcoe County. But our commitment to excellent service extends far beyond. We're proud to serve clients across Ontario and are open to travelling further afield for your specific needs. Our company is focused on building strong relationships and a reputation for quality, no matter the distance.

What types of properties do you service?

We work with residential yards, commercial properties, parks, schools, and even steep or hard-to-reach terrain. If there’s overgrowth, goats can help!

Can I rent goats for my property?

Yes — Goats at Work rents trained Kiko goats for one-day to multi-week grazing projects across Barrie, Orillia, and Simcoe County. Our team handles delivery, fencing, monitoring, and pickup; you just point us at the brush you want cleared.

Can I rent goats for a small backyard project?

Yes — we take projects from quarter-acre backyards in Barrie all the way up to multi-acre municipal sites. Smaller projects usually run two to four days.

Are goats safe around children and pets?

Yes! Our Kiko goats are calm and used to people. The portable electric fencing keeps them in their work area and keeps curious dogs out. Children love watching them work — but please don't feed them treats over the fence.

Do I need to be there while the goats are working?

No, but you’re welcome to observe. A trained handler monitors the goats and installs temporary fencing to keep them safe and contained.

What do you do with the goats when they’re done?

Once the grazing is complete, we transport the goats back to our farm, where they rest, relax, and prepare for their next job.

How does goat rental work?

After a quick site assessment we deliver the herd, set up portable electric fencing, and check on them daily until the area is grazed down. Most properties take between two days and three weeks depending on size and vegetation density.

Is this more affordable than traditional methods?

In many cases, yes. Goat grazing can reduce the need for equipment, labor, and herbicides - saving you money while helping the environment.

How much does it cost to rent goats in Ontario?

Pricing depends on acreage, vegetation type, fencing requirements, and travel distance. We provide a free quote — get in touch with the property details and we'll send a clear estimate before you commit.

How long does goat rental usually take?

Most properties take between two days and three weeks, depending on size and how heavily overgrown they are. We'll estimate timing during the site assessment.

What kinds of plants do the goats eat?

Goats are remarkable browsers — they'll go after poison ivy, buckthorn, wild parsnip, phragmites, garlic mustard, and most invasive shrubs and weeds. More on what they eat in our FAQ.

Do I need to provide anything?

Just a water source nearby and access for our trailer. We bring the herd, the fencing, the dogs, and everything else.
